Definition of Venting
Venting provides escape paths for air trapped ahead of the advancing melt front. Without adequate vents, compressed air can cause diesel burn marks, incomplete fill, or material degradation at the flow front.
Vents are typically shallow gaps (often at the parting line or ejector pins) deep enough for gas but too shallow for significant plastic flash. Depth and location depend on material viscosity and fill speed.
Why It Matters for Plastic Injection Molding
Poor venting shows up as gloss differences, burn streaks, or short fills in last-to-fill regions. AMP validates venting during mold tryout and cleans blocked vents during maintenance.
Vents must release gas without becoming flash paths. Process and clamp settings work together with vent depth so production stays clean over thousands of cycles.
